About This Station

The station is powered by a Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station with FARS (daytime fan-aspirated radiation shield). The data is collected in every 2.5 seconds and the site is updated every half minute. This site and its data is collected using Weather Display Software. The station comprises of an anemometer, a rain gauge and a thermo-hydro sensor situated in optimal positions for the highest accuracy possible.

Thermo-hydro sensor is mounted on a pole 1.6 meter high AGL (above ground level), facing south, on fairly open space. Anemometer is mounted on three and half meter mast located in the roof of garage, approximately in eight meter height. Surrounding trees and buildings distort somewhat wind speed readings.

Rain gauge is heated with a self-made heater. The heater is regulated with a double circuit thermostat, which measures outside temperature and temperature inside the rain bucket.

Weather Display runs in Linux based HP Compaq Nx7400 notebook. At the moment OS is Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. Hardware is Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 processor, 1.66 GHz and 3 GB memory.

UV and solar radiation (insolation) are measured with separate 1-wire sensors which are connected to HA7Net - Ethernet based 1-Wire Host Adapter. Insolation values are then collected with thermd application (perl program by Daniel Klein), stored in remote MySql database and finally shown in web. UV values are collected with owhttpd program, modified with perl application and shown via php page.
